So, you may or may not know but we did not have an event in August. We took a little bit of break. It’s only the third time in two years that we have not performed on the last Saturday of the month.
It was great to see so many people asking us if we were still doing Catch22. It was also good to see how C22 has become a small part of High Wycombe’s night out at the end of the month.
July was our last event where we went all Afrobeat with MLN Ensemble providing the house band duties while names like Harry Bennet provided his telling vibes on sax and Lauren (owner of The Front Room) also went in on some vocal vibes. As always, we like to get in a local food vendor. On this occasion LA-Koco Coffee on Desborough Road provided the Nigerian cuisine with the obligatory jollof-they sold out.
Ok so this newsletter just some telling updates for C22.
Neo Soul on 30th September
In September on the last Saturday of the month we go all Neo Soul. In truth it is one of my fav genres. Back in the day when I dj’d dropping vibes like; Maxwell, Floetry, Anthony Hamilton, Musiq Soulchild and more guaranteed a full dance floor. I think the vocal performances on the day should be great too-Nicole Baptiste I know cannot wait.
Championing Autism
Since turning into a Community Interest Company (CIC) we have been intent on giving back to the community. In an important phase in our growth, we teamed up with Autism Bucks to discuss ways to create a night of jazz which can be enjoyed by those with Autism. The result of those talks will be seen in our next event with a night where all can enjoy. In the interview he helps to dispel some of the myths about Autism. Get those tickets at the bottom of the newsletter. Look out a full interview with Neil Cary Head of Trustees for Autism Bucks will be in Bucks Newspaper.
Also, September 9th (in our quest to provide jazz to more of the Buck’s County) we venture (once again) to The Drawing Room in Chesham headed up by the charismatic Richard. Dates for performances; 9th, 24th September, and 22nd October. Hope to see you there.
We hit London at Signature Brew
On the 11th of October C22 goes in on London at Signature Brew (Haggerston to be exact) and brings a show to that hive of jazz talent. It’s great as we get to show that outside of London there are great talented names in High Wycombe. Look out for info very soon.
2023-2024 performances at Marleybone Station
In some big news we can finally reveal that C22-(as a CIC) was successful in its first application for funding from Chiltern Railways. This has been the culmination of heaps of work by all who help to make C22.
So, what are the plans for this funding?
From 2023-2024 Catch22jams will be hosting jazz events to mark specific dates in the calendar at Marylebone Station. Of course, I will let you know more about dates in due course, but our first event will be on the 10th of September highlighting World Suicide Prevention Day.
As the Catch22jam’s Mental Health First Aider and as C22 it is our aim to champion mental health in Bucks. Also, on the day, we have teamed up with the Samaritans, a registered charity who work to reduce the number of people who die by suicide, and help those struggling to cope, which they have been doing for seven decades this year. On the day (and throughout September) we will collect donations for the charity, so we do hope to get that money box full to the brim!
A new logo.
Lastly, we decided to go with a new logo for C22. Check out the polls on socials, keen to know what you like.
